My Honest Review:  Instant Pot Spaghetti from Cooking Classy

On Amazon Prime Day this summer, I finally gave in and purchased an Instant Pot. I had been looking at them for over a year, but just couldn’t decide if it was something I really needed. I already had a stainless steel pressure saucepan that I barely used. When the 8 quart Instant Pot Ultra came up as the Deal of the Day, my husband suggested that I go ahead and buy one. With the $60 discount, the total price was $128.35. At that price point, I thought that if I didn’t like it I could probably sell it and not be out much.

After looking at recipes online, several Instant Pot owners suggested spaghetti as a great first recipe to try. This sounded like a great place to start since spaghetti was one of my family’s favorite. Searching online, I came across the Instant Pot Spaghetti recipe by Cooking Classy and I was sold. I made a few minor adjustments to the recipe, but I will never make spaghetti any other way again!

No skillet to brown the hamburger…

No extra pan for the noodles…

No pouring hot boiling water off the noodles..

No watching everything while it cooks…

Added bonus: Fewer dishes + less mess =  one “Happy Chef”!

As for the instant pot, well, it has not left my counter since July!

Easy Instant Pot Spaghetti

Ingredients

• 1 tsp. olive oil
• 1 lb. lean ground beef (I used 93%)
• 2 cloves garlic, minced (2 tsp.) -I left this out because a family member didn't like
• 14.5-ounce box of dry spaghetti noodles (I used Hy-vee brand omega 3 multigrain)
• 3 sprigs fresh basil, plus extra for serving
• 1 (24 oz.) jar spaghetti sauce (I used Ragu traditional)
• 1 (14.5 oz.) can petite diced tomatoes
• 2 2/3 cups warm water
• Grated parmesan cheese for serving

Instructions

1. Set the Instant Pot to "Saute" at "High Temperature".
2. When hot, add olive oil to the pot and brown the ground beef. Add the garlic with the beef while browning if you so choose to.
3.  When beef is thoroughly browned, press "Cancel" to turn off Instant Pot.
4. Remove approximately 1/6 of the spaghetti noodles from the box.
5. Break the spaghetti noodles in half over the pot. Place in an even layer over the beef.
6. Layer another 1/6 of noodles in the opposite direction.
7. Repeat with remaining spaghetti noodles. (Layering does not have to be perfect! It helps reduce sticking.)
8. Add spaghetti sauce, basil, diced tomatoes, and water. Do not stir!
9. Seal the Instant Pot lid.
10. Set on "Ultra" at  High temperature for 7 minutes. Press start.
11. When time is up, use Quick Release.
12. When the pin drops indicating that the pressure has been released, remove the lid.
13. Toss with a fork. Let rest for a couple minutes so that any extra liquid cooks the noodles through.
14. Top with parmesan and basil upon serving.
